Muhammad Sofiyussalam is a former Head of Shariah Governance and Management Department at RHB Islamic Bank Berhad. He started his career in Islamic Banking and Finance as a Strategic Management Executive at Malaysian Bulding Society Berhad.

He holds a double degree in Economics and Islamic Studies from the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). He later obtained a professional certificate of Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP) from INCEIF with the scholarship of Bank Negara Malaysia.

Joining RHB Islamic Bank in 2011 until early 2018, Sofiyussalam has been entrusted to hold several portfolios related to Shariah. He spearheaded the development of a structured Shariah learning program for the bank. Sofiyussalam was part of the team who initiated the Bay ‘al Dayn bisSila project, an alternative to replace the Bay’ al Dayn contract.

He was involved directly in providing Shariah advisory services for retail banking products, wholesale banking, and corporate banking during his service with RHB. Due to his passion in Islamic banking, he led the expertise in the field of Zakat and Waqaf and served as a pioneer and working committee for the Waqf Fund Collaboration initiative between AIBIM and Islamic banks.

Sofiyussalam has also served as an Islamic banking lecturer at Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNITAR). Now, he speaks and provide advisory services in relation to Islamic banking and finance.
